NCC Open House Highlights Automotive, Aviation

Nashua Community College is hosting its fall Open House Wednesday, Nov. 6 with special focus on the aviation and automotive programs. Prospective students and families are welcome to campus at 505 Amherst Street in Nashua to learn more about the 50+ associate degree, certificate, and workforce development programs.

“Open House is a great opportunity to tour the campus, meet faculty and students, and explore some of the wonderful programs NCC has to offer,” said Mackenzie Murphy, an enrollment specialist in the NCC Admissions Office and Class of 2017 graduate, “You can hear directly from students about their experiences and the positive impact it has had on their college and career pathways.”

Class of 2018 graduate Hannah Croce said open house was her first opportunity to meet NCC students, “It was there that I really learned about opportunities to get involved in clubs and the Student Senate. I owe a lot of my own involvement to events like open house for showing me just how much opportunity there is at NCC." Croce transferred to Northeastern, but still visits NCC to help with open house events.

At this open house, the industry & transportation department will be showcasing its aviation and automotive programs: Honda PACT, collision repair, automotive, and aviation technology.

“This is an industry with a lot of new technology, and a lot of career options,” said Karl Wunderlich, department chair of industry and transportation at NCC, “We have huge support from the industry, and we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to our 40,000 square-foot facility.” Attendees will get to meet professionals from the automotive, collision repair, Honda, and aviation industries. Student projects will also be on display.

About Industry & Transportation programs
For each automotive program, NCC’s “live work” approach helps students apply skills and build knowledge by performing work on real vehicles needing repair. Experienced faculty guide high-tech training and individual instruction with small class size. Graduates are prepared to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) technician certification exam.

The Collision Repair Technology program uses real damaged vehicles with unique repair issues to teach students practical and state-of-the-art repair techniques.

The Honda associate degree is a partnership with the Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) program of American Honda. It provides the skills and training to become a service department professional specializing in maintenance and repair of Honda and Acura vehicles. The program sets students on the path to be a Honda Master Technician. Training includes a paid internship working at a Honda/Acura dealership.

Automotive Technology trains students with real automotive problems in a real shop atmosphere. High-tech training is grouped with course work that explores the operation of automotive systems and engine repair, including; electrical, brakes, steering and suspension, automatic and manual transmissions, heating and cooling, and engine performance.

Aviation Technology prepares students for professional careers in aviation maintenance. NCC is an FAA approved training facility, and students who complete this program will be prepared to apply for the FAA oral, written, and practical exams for the Airframe and Powerplant Technician License. Graduates may seek employment with airlines, fixed base operators, or aircraft manufacturers.
