Shaheen Visits Nashua Manufacturer of Military Gear

This small New Hampshire business relies on federal funding to continue innovation and development of vital equipment.

On Oct. 21 Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, stopped by Windmill International Inc. in Nashua for a presentation on the company's new subsidiary, AQYR, and the success of its portable military suitcase broadcast systems.

Under the AQYR name, the company will leverage the innovation and technology developed for elite military Special Forces communications with the release of new products designed to service public sector, commercial and enterprise markets.

During the presentation, Vice President of Specialty Products Division, Laura  Dion, told Shaheen that while the company knows its communication system, the KA-10 Portable Global Broadcast Service (GBS) Portable Receive Suite's, was used by Navy SEALS during the quest to find Osama Bin Laden, they don't know the details of its use, or if it was instrumental in that operation.

However, company CEO Harry Pape added that shortly after that mission was complete, the military ordered 100 more units. You can watch the exchange on the video, uploaded here.

Dion also told Shaheen that designation for the communication suite to become a Program of Record had been delayed out of Washington, DC, which effects their bottom line.

Currently the systems are being used by the private sector in relief efforts in Colorado, following the recent flood devastation, by the charitable organization Samaritan's Purse, which has purchased several of the units.
