Sky's the Limit for Downtown Filmmaking Duo
New Sky Productions is producing the video component for the city's new branding campaign.
Nashua's new branding slogan, "Dare to Begin," is not lost on Grant Morris and John Waskey, of New Sky Productions.
Their two-man video production company has been hired to tell Nashua's story as part of the city's new branding campaign, something they totally get because they actually dared to begin here, in a converted mill building on Canal Street, three years ago.
Since then they've been on a roll, gaining steam – as well as traction – with every contract they sign and every clip added to their professional portfolio.
Morris, a former staff photographer for the Nashua Telegraph, said this is a project he envisioned long before he was formally approached by the city.
"It's been a dream and a vision of mine that a video of all the great things here in Nashua could be used in tandem with something, as a way of promoting the city. I thought it would be a nice way to show the beauty of the city, and all it has to offer," Morris said.
Waskey, who met Morris during their college years, is a videographer and international documentarian who has joined forces with Morris as the West Coast outpost for New Sky. Although he's based in Portland, Ore., he's relocated to Nashua for this project.
"We're really honored. It's a huge opportunity for us, and means a lot that they picked us to tell the city's story," Waskey said.
Morris said that while he isn't 100 percent certain why New Sky got the gig, he senses it has much to do with the demonstrated passion they bring to every project.
"We sponsored the Farmer's Dinners happening this summer because it's something we believe in," Morris said. "It's the kind of event that demonstrates what Nashua is all about."
Waskey and Morris say they are excited to make good use of their motion control time-lapse dolly, which will help them pull together a comprehensive snapshot of Nashua on a tight deadline.
"I only wish we had time to get every season filmed – Nashua offers so much year-round, it would've been nice to showcase the four seasons here," Morris said. "I think it's something we're going to do anyway, and hopefully we can add another component to the campaign going forward."
