State of the State: Casino Still Viable, Rail on Agenda
'The Granite State continues to be ranked as one of the healthiest, safest, and most livable states in the nation," according to Gov. Hassan.
During an address Tuesday to local business leaders, Gov. Maggie Hassan said New Hampshire's fiscal outlook had brightened in the four months since she last assessed our state of the state.
"When we developed our plan months ago, we were facing sluggish revenue growth as well as a significant projected deficit for fiscal year 2013, caused by shortfalls in Medicaid Enhancement Tax revenues, as well as unrealistic saving estimates for the implementation of Medicaid Managed Care and the changes to the retirement system. But in the months since, revenues have far outpaced expectations, leading to a projected surplus and improved revenues for the coming biennium," Hassan said, during the annual State of the State address hosted by Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce.
During her address, Hassan touched on hot topics including casino gambling, commuter rail, expanded Medicare and balancing the state budget.
