Suspect Accused Of November Stabbing In Nashua, Returned To NH

NASHUA, NH — A suspect who was arrested last month in Rhode Island after being accused of stabbing a female acquaintance in Nashua, was transported back to New Hampshire earlier this week, the Nashua Police Department said.

Kelvin Lewis, 32, whose last known address was in Everett, Massachusetts, waived extradition in Rhode Island on Dec. 9, leading the way to his return to Nashua, police said.

Lewis was formally charged Monday with two counts of first-degree assault, a Class A felony, criminal threatening (with a deadly weapon), a Class B felony, and criminal restraint, a Class B felony, authorities said.

A Class A felony is punishable by up to 15 years in state prison, and a Class B felony is punishable by up to seven years in state prison.

According to police reports, on Nov. 2, members of the Nashua PD's Uniform Field Operations Bureau responded to the report of an assault in the area of Pine Street and West Hollis Street.

At the scene, officers discovered the stabbing victim.

The victim was transported to a local hospital before being taken to a Boston-area hospital. Today, the victim still is recovering from her wounds, the Nashua PD said.

After a short investigation by the Nashua PD's Criminal Investigation Division, Lewis was identified as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

At the time, the Nashua PD announced that Lewis was on the loose and possibly armed and dangerous.

On Nov. 4, Lewis and Melanie Diperna, 23, of Northfield, were arrested in Hopkinton, Rhode Island after a crash on Interstate 95. Rhode Island police said the pair had been driving a stolen motor vehicle.

According to reports, Rhode Island police investigated the pair and arrested them on a slew of charges.

Lewis was charged with fugitive from justice out of New Hampshire for first-degree assault as well as possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of simple assault, assault with intent to commit specified felonies, attempted robbery-carjacking, breaking and entering of a dwelling when residents on premises, and obstruction of an officer in the execution of duty, according to authorities.

Lewis reportedly came to the attention of Concord police in October when he was arrested on charges of resisting arrest or detention and loitering in connection with an Oct. 24 theft at a bus depot. Lewis reportedly was tased by police during that incident.

In that case, Lewis was described as being homeless and from Leesburg, Florida.

According to reports about that incident, Lewis and a female were spotted by an officer at the Concord Coach Bus Depot parking lot just before 1 a.m., and Lewis allegedly was seen taking items out of a vehicle.

Lewis and the female fled, police said.

The female was not apprehended. But Lewis was spotted by police about 30 minutes later and was tased and taken into custody.

According to reports out of Florida, Lewis is a convicted felon who was involved in a 2017 domestic incident that ended with him suffering an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
