UPDATE: Arrest Following School Bus Fender Bender

William Lagrange should not have been driving when he hit a school bus Wednesday morning.

This morning we posted a quick story about a car and school bus that were involved in an early morning accident on Bridge and Amory streets, thanks to alert Patch reader Rony Camille, who sent along a photo.

Police just released new information on that story. William Lagrange, 25, of 3B Bruce St., Nashua, was arrested at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, 8 Prospect Ave., at about noon, charged with driving without giving proof of financial responsibility, a class A misdemeanor, and habitual offender, a class B felony.

According to police, at about 6:46 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Bridge and Amory Streets for a report of an accident involving a school bus that had not yet begun picking up students. Upon arrival, it was learned that the operator of the car, identified as Lagrange, was taken to the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center as a result of the accident.

Officers learned Lagrange’s license status was suspended on March 6, 2013 for being a habitual offender and was required to have proof of financial responsibility.  The investigation was furthered by detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division, and he was placed under arrest.

School District Transportation Director David Rauseo said that bus was on its way to pick up students for Nashua High School North. The accident caused a few late buses in the morning due to accident-related traffic on Bridge Street.

"We called another bus into service for the one involved in the accident since we knew it would be tied up for a while," Rauseo said.

He did not know if the bus driver sustained any injuries. A call to First Student Inc., which employs the city's bus drivers, for information was not immediately returned.

A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in the County House of Corrections, exclusive of fines.  A class B Felony is punishable by up to five years in the New Hampshire State Prison, exclusive of fines.  Lagrange is being held on $1,000 cash or surety bail pending his arraignment at the 9th Circuit District Division- Nashua Court on May 2, 2013.
