How Do I Get a Recycling Bin?

Recycling bins are free and available from the Four Hills Landfill. The larger recycling carts are also available at a cost of $60.

The Solid Waste Department is inviting residents to “Invest in Nashua’s Future – Recycle” by buying a bright green recycling cart for use in the bi-weekly collection program for Single Stream recycling. The 96-gallon cart is being offered at our cost of $60; this fee will not be reimbursed if the City ever provides carts citywide at some time in the future.

The Nashua Recycling Center is located at the Four Hills Landfill and is available for use by residents and businesses of Nashua.
General Info:
Hours: Mon - Fri: 8 am to 4 pm; Saturdays: 8 am to 1 pm
Residential Permit required - $5 / yr / vehicle fee waived for residents 65 years and older
ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS
Antifreeze - No charge
Appliances - No charge
Automotive batteries - lead acid batteries from cars, trucks, and motorcycles - No charge
Books & video tapes & DVDs - No charge
Brush - No charge
Clothing & footwear - No charge
Construction & Demolition Debris (C & D) - lumber, plaster, drywall, sheet rock, shingles, siding, cabinets, tile, carpeting & underlay, fences, bath & kitchen fixtures. Cost: $90 / ton
Electronics - computer monitors & components, printers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, microwaves, etc. The first two per year are free. Additional items will be charged at $5 per item
Freon appliances - air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, etc. - No charge
Propane tanks - 20 lb (tanks must be empty) - No charge
Scrap Metal - No charge
Single Stream Recyclables - No Charge
Please recycle the following mixed papers and containers:
ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS
- Smooth cardboard and corrugated cardboard
- Newspapers, magazines and catalogs
- White and colored paper
- Mail and envelopes
- Paper Bags
- Soft cover books, telephone books
- Shredded paper - in paper bags only, taped or stapled closed
- Plastic bottles, jars and jugs # 1 through # 7
- Glass bottles and jars
- Milk and juice cartons, drink boxes
- Clean aluminum foil wrap and trays
- Metal cans - tin and aluminum
UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS (place these in regular trash)
- Soft paper (napkins, tissues and paper towels)
- Waxed or plastic-coated paper (candy wrappers, oatmeal & hot cocoa packets, frozen food boxes and take-out containers)
- Soiled paper, Styrofoam and plastic bags
- Other types of glass (mirrors, incandescent light bulbs, ceramics and glassware)
RECYCLING TIPS
- Flatten cardboard and cut to 36 inches square; place between the two bins
- Remove liners from cereal boxes, etc.
- Staples, tape, glue and any papers that can tear are acceptable
- Papers with confidential information may be shredded and placed in a paper bag and taped or stapled to prevent litter
- Newspapers may be put into paper grocery bags for convenient storage and handling
- Rinse all containers; labels may remain
Two bins are provided by the Solid Waste Department, but residents may put out additional bins. These extra bins must have handles and be no taller than the recycling bins; barrels or plastic bags are NOT accepted as extra containers.
Soft Yard Waste - Leaves, grass clippings and pine needles - No charge
Tires - passenger vehicle tires only; NO commercial vehicle tires are accepted. All tires must be off the rims. The first four per year are free. Additional tires will be charged at $3 per tire.
Please bring the following items into the office at the Four Hills Landfill:
- Fluorescent light bulbs - compacts & tubes
- Rechargeable batteries
- Mercury thermostats and thermometers
- Ink cartridges & cell phones
