Big Salem Bridge Reconstruction Project Delayed

One of Salem's ongoing bridge projects is behind schedule, which could mean longer road closures.

The Bluff Street Extension bridge reconstruction — one of the ongoing road projects in Salem — is "a couple of weeks behind" schedule due to "something to do with the contractor," Selectmen Chairman Everett McBride Jr. told the Eagle-Tribune.

The Eagle-Tribune has reported that $4.6 million has been spent so far this year on road repairs, and that $1.1 million is currently being spent to repair the Bluff Street and Providence Hill Road bridges. The latter is on schedule and has seen "steady progress," McBride reportedly told the Eagle-Tribune.

Earlier this year, Salem received a grant that provided $103,040 and $94,206 toward design work on the Bluff Street Extension and Providence Hill Road projects, respectively. The grant didn't include any funds for the actual construction, though.
