Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up, from the safety of their suburban stretch circle. The team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals. “The Wolves” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. and plays April 28-30th at the Arts Academy of New Hampshire in Salem, NH.
Of the piece, Downey says “This is a piece unlike any other, a raw and honest capture of modern day teenage life. We observe a soccer team that is actively walking the line between adolescence and adulthood, and we watch them stumble and grow together as a unit, straight through an even mix of tragedy and comedy. I was introduced to this piece at the age of 17, and whilst putting it on two years later, I truly believe that this piece is more relevant now than ever as an all assigned female at birth cast and crew and topics that are typically shied away from being dragged into the light. “

The Village Voice described “The Wolves” as “ a delightful meditation on society, sex and soccer... DeLappe's dialogue is hilarious and idiosyncratic, moving swiftly from gross-out humor to pain... She offers us ninety minutes in a smart, sympathetic, female world.”
