Domestic Incident Involving Gun Temporarily Shuts Down Road

Roughly 10 police cruisers reportedly sped down a local road to respond to an incident involving an argument and an armed man.

North Main Street was closed for roughly 20 minutes on Tuesday as police responded to a domestic incident that involved a reported "armed confrontation," said Salem Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten.

Salem Patch readers reported Tuesday that numerous cruisers, possibly as many as 10, could be seen traveling at a high rate of speed down the road around 6 p.m.

Patten, reached for the first time about the incident on Friday, said the road was shut down temporarily as a precaution while police were on scene.

Before officers arrived, it was reported that everyone within the home had exited the structure unharmed, and that the man with the gun had taken his own life. There was no confrontation or standoff with police, and the incident has been ruled a suicide.
