2. FILING PERIOD OPENS: The filing period for town and school candidates begins today. Those interested in running for town positions can file at the Town Clerk's Office at 33 Geremonty Drive between until Feb. 1. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. You must be a registered voter in Salem.
Those seeking a school position can get their paperwork between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1 at the Superintendent of Schools office at 38 Geremonty Drive. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You must be a registered voter in Salem.

3. THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN SCHOOL SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS APPROVED: According to a report on Facebook from the Salem Community Patriot, Salem School Board members unanimously approved $105,000 to lock Salem schools and install electronic entry systems. The changes should come in the next few months.
