3. SCHOOL BOARD TO GET SECURITY UPDATE: The Salem School Board will see a security improvement update as part of its regular meeting tonight. Preparations for the deliberative session wil lalso take place, as well as administrative monthly reports. The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the Salem High School TV studio.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1998, in a Sacramento, California, courtroom, Theodore J. Kaczynski pleads guilty to all federal charges against him, acknowledging his responsibility for a 17-year campaign of package bombings attributed to the "Unabomber."

5. FILING PERIOD STARTS TOMORROW: The filing period for town and school candidates begins tomorrow. Those interested in running for town positions can file at the Town Clerk's Office at 33 Geremonty Drive between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1.
