Green Barn Demolished to Make Way for Pharmacy, Strip Mall

2. GREEN BARN DEMOLISHED: Construction crews have been on the site of the Green Barn Restaurant to demolish the 43-year-old establishment. The work is being done to make way for a pharmacy and small strip mall at the address on Hampstead Road. See the attached photographs of the demolition work sent to us by Bob Gibbs, owner of Salem Kripalu Yoga Studio, which is just across the street from the site.

3. HAIGH SCHOOL PARENTS MEET WITH SCHOOL BOARD TONIGHT: Parents will meet with the Salem School Board tonight at 7 to ask questions and offer concerns related to the future of Haigh Elementary School. The meeting will take place in the Haigh School library/multi-purpose room. Learn more here.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1945, holed up in a bunker under his headquarters in Berlin, Adolf Hitler commits suicide by swallowing a cyanide capsule and shooting himself in the head. Soon after, Germany unconditionally surrendered to the Allied forces, ending Hitler's dreams of a "1,000-year" Reich.

5. NBA CENTER COMES OUT AS GAY: Jason Collins, former Boston Celtics center and 12-year National Basketball Association veteran, has come out as gay. He is the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport.
