Josiah Bartlett Signed it First

Oh, and don't miss the Salem Farmers' Market this Sunday.

1) Salem weather: The National Weather Service forecast calls for showers this morning, with the rain letting up as Friday progresses. Saturday should be sunny and Sunday may bring back some showers.

2) History unfurls. Congressional delegates on this day in 1776 signed the Declaration of Independence, with New Hampshire's Josiah Bartlett being the first to sign it, History.com notes today.

3) In case you missed it: a New Hampshire man tested positive for two rare tick and mosquito-borne viruses, the state announced, and it's the first time the Jamestown Canyon virus and the Powassan virus were detected in the state.

4) Eat Local. The Salem Farmers' Market is this Sunday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 37 Lake Street (hosted by the Lake Street Garden Center).

5) Look ahead: The Salem Zoning Board of Adjustment meets Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m.
