Man Cleared in Canobie Lake Child Porn Case 'Very Happy'

A Salem man recently cleared of a child pornography conviction is "very happy" the court has given him the chance to put "a very unfortunate situation behind him."

The attorney for a Salem man recently cleared of a child pornography conviction says his client is "very happy" the court has given him the chance to put "a very unfortunate situation behind him," according to the Eagle-Tribune.

David Lantagne, 48, had been sentenced to two to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography. He admitted to police that he had the pornography after he was allegedly caught trying to take photos of young girls in swimsuits at Canobie Lake Park in July 2011.

The New Hampshire Supreme Judicial Court threw out Lantagne's conviction last week roughly two months after his sentencing.

"It’s been very emotional — we feel he has not been properly treated from the beginning," John Macoul, Lantagne’s attorney, reportedly said to the Eagle-Tribune. "Nobody can give him back what he’s been through."

Salem Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten also reportedly talked to the Eagle-Tribune about the case, telling the paper that the court's decision is "obviously disappointing from a public safety standpoint."
