Man Seriously Injured In Derry Fireworks Incident On Schurman Drive
EMS requested a medical helicopter for the injured man who had burns. He was transported to the Elliot after the helicopter was unavailable.

DERRY, NH — Derry Fire, EMS, and police were dispatched to a fireworks-related injury on Schurman Drive Saturday, dispatch advised they had multiple calls from the area reporting injuries,
Upon arrival at the scene between 17 and 22 Schurman Drive at about 9:20 p.m., Derry Fire crews located a man that had sustained serious injuries, including burns from fireworks. Command requested the engine responding to "extinguish the fire in a large pile of fireworks" on arrival.
After assessing the injuries, a medical helicopter was requested to be dispatched to the Parkland Medical Center. After contacting dispatch for the area medical helicopters, the command was advised due to weather, the helicopters were declining response.

The man was treated at the scene and provided advanced life support at the scene and then transported to the man to Elliot Hospital, activating a trauma alert while transporting.
Derry Battalion Chief Greg Laro requested the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal to respond to the scene due to the injuries and the fireworks incident. Derry police advised the scene was being secured to await the arrival of state investigators.

- The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display.
If retail fireworks are a part of your celebration, please do so responsibly. Before using any fireworks, remember:
- Keep water or hose close by in case of a fire.
- Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
- Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse.
- Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
- After fireworks are discharged, douse the remaining packaging/device with water before discarding it to prevent a trash fire
- Never mix the use of fireworks with the use of alcohol or drugs
