Monday Essentials: 'I Have a Dream'

Happy Monday, Salem. Here are five important things coming up this week:


1. Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, and there are many things happening throughout the state and nation to mark a big day in the nation's history. 

For instance, the University of New Hampshire will celebrate with an open public march from the Memorial Union Building to the Great Hall Lawn at 2 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a re-reading of the speech.

2. This week is the first week of school for local students. Click here to check out the new bus routes, read about some of the new teachers, and get an update about school construction progress.

3. There are a couple of great concerts on tap at the Field of Dreams.

4. Salem selectmen will meet Monday to discuss a variety of subjects during a 7 p.m. session.

5. Citizens Bank and the Union Leader are now accepting applications for their Champions in Action program.
