Racetrack-Themed Mural Unveiled At The Mall At Rockingham Park

SALEM, NH — The Mall at Rockingham Park has a new mural — and it's a nod to the park's now-defunct historic racetrack.

The mural was created by Nashua-based artists Yvan Quiroz, Christian Ramirez, and Munuel Phelany Ramirez and unveiled at a ribbon cutting this month. The trio, from Positive Street Art, had a goal of representing the history of the mall property.

Built in 1906 and demolished in 2017, Rockingham Park Racetrack hosted legendary racehorses like Seabiscuit and Mom's Command.

Seabiscuit raced at Rockingham in 1935 and 1936. Mom's Command ran her first race at Rockingham and gained her first victory there in 1984.

"The mission of Positive Street Art is to inspire a passion for the urban arts in a productive way and to build strong communities through educational workshops, community events, and artistic services," according to a news release from the Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

Those looking to visit the mural can find it on a large barricade in the center, lower level of the mall, between Macy's and Starbucks.

The Mall at Rockingham Park is located off Exit 1 on I-93 on the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border and was constructed in 1991 adjacent to the racetrack.
