Route 28 Reopened After Excavator Hits Gas Line In Salem

Route 28 in Salem was temporarily closed Monday morning after a construction vehicle struck a gas line, causing a leak.

SALEM, NH — A portion of Route 28 in Salem was closed to traffic Tuesday morning after a construction vehicle struck a gas pipe line, causing a leak. The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. The portion of Route 28 between Rockingham Boulevard and Main Street was closed to traffic until about 10 a.m.

The accident occurred when an excavator struck what officials called an unmarked gas pipe near the intersection of Route 28 and Route 97, WMUR has reported. About 60 to 70 people in the nearby area were evacuated, the station reported.
