Salem Merit Pages: Local Students Making News At The College Level

These students attend or have graduated from Bates, James Madison, University of Rhode Island, University of Alabama and Emerson.

SALEM, NH — Here are students from Salem who are making news at the college level:

  • John Everett graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, after majoring in economics and minoring in history. Everett, who attended St. John's Preparatory School, earned the Bates Senior School Award, an honor given to graduating seniors who have participated in varsity sports for four years and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
  • Kriti Shrestha has enrolled at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Shrestha will be majoring in health sciences.
  • Three Salem residents were among the 4,000 graduates at the University of Rhode Island's 136th Commencement at the end of the last school year. The new graduates are June C Milos, Nina Ponicha Sahasakmontri and Katelyn Marie Schramm.
  • Salem's Julia Coryea is participating in the University of Alabama's Cooperative Education Program during the fall 2022 semester. Coryea is working for Daikin, a leading innovator and provider of advanced, high-quality air conditioning solutions.

In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student.

  • Three students from Salem made the Dean's List at Boston's Emerson College during the spring 2022 semester. To make the Dean's List at Emerson one needs a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester. The local students on the list were:
  • Xiara Glickel, a member of the Class of 2025 who is majoring in comedic arts
  • Jenna McDowell, a member of the Class of 2025 who is majoring in media arts production
  • Garrett Traer, a member of the Class of 2023 who is majoring in theater
