SALEM, NH -- Salem police are asking the community's support in a nationwide grant contest for their K-9 unit. The contest is sponsored by Aftermath, a crime scene cleanup company. Aftermath is awarding eight grants totaling $16,500.
The contest opened Tuesday and runs through November 5. Winners will be selected based on voting on the grant website.
"Voting is easy -- simply select your department, fill out your information, and click submit," the company said.

Citizens can also vote on the company's Instagram page (@AftermathK9Grant) by leaving a comment worth an additional vote.
Winning police departments will receive grants worth up to $5,000.

Salem has three police dogs and Salem Police Captain Joel Dolan said the money would go toward maintenance, safety equipment and/or training.
