SALEM, NH —A recent humorous encounter that former Red Sox catcher and current coach Jason Varitek had with a fan in New Hampshire is making the rounds on social media.

On Tuesday, Varitek's wife Catherine posted on Twitter a video she said was of the Varitek family's recent trip to Canobie Lake Park in Salem.

Catherine Varitek hinted that the couple's children spotted a man visiting the park who was wearing a Red Sox t-shirt with the name Varitek and the No. 33 on the back.

"So we hit him with a sneak attack," Catherine Varitek wrote.

In the video, Jason Varitek, 50, who serves as the Red Sox game planning coordinator/catching coach, approaches the Red Sox fan, who is eating a piece of pizza.

The two-time World Series winner then says "do you mind me asking, how is the pizza?"

Varitek then asks the man, who is with a female companion, about other food options at the park that might be good for the kids.

Behind the camera, a woman, likely Catherine Varitek, then tells the man that she likes his t-shirt.

"Are you a fan of him?" she asks

The man, still eating pizza, replies: "Yeah, always."

He then says that even though Jason Varitek no longer plays, "sometimes, you still see him at the games, though."

The man then begins giving Jason Varitek directions to find food at the park.

At which point, "Tek" puts out his hand and says to the man: "she made me come over and say 'hello.' I'm Jason."

"Dude," the man says, seemingly realizing for the first time that it's the former Red Sox.

Then, the man gives Jason Varitek a big hug.

"You got me. What are the odds? Oh my God!" the man says with a smile, as the Variteks also have a laugh.
