Salem Student's 'Perfect Score' Puts Him Among Best in US

Salem High School senior Jonathan Shum has done something no other New Hampshire student has done in 25 years.

Seventeen-year-old Salem High School senior Jonathan Shum has placed eighth overall in the national Trig Star mathematics competition, a feat teachers say is "pretty rare" because it's the highest any Granite State student has placed in roughly 25 years, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

“I was pretty surprised,” Shum, who represented New Hampshire after winning the Salem High and state competitions, reportedly told the Eagle-Tribune. “Then, they said I received a perfect score — that shocked me.”
