Salem Tax Rate Set; Residents to See Tax Break This Year

Locals should expect to see a modest break in their tax bills this year.

The New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration has set Salem's 2013 tax rate at $20.46 per $1,000 of assessed value, which Town Manager Keith Hickey said is a 12-cent decrease compared to last year's rate of $20.58.

The average Salem home is assessed at $285,000, which means the tax rate decrease would represent an average 2013 tax bill of $5,831.10, or $34.20 less than the average $5,865.30 bill in 2012.

The 2013 tax rate is 32 cents higher than the $20.14 rate set in 2011.

Hickey said tax bills are due on Thursday, Dec. 5.
