Tragic End To Abandoned Salem Dog Case

SALEM, NH -- An abandoned dog found in the parking lot of the old Salem Shaw's grocery store earlier this month has died. The dog, a female Labrador, was found wandering around with a pink collar Nov. 17 on Cluff Crossing Road. The dog was emaciated and in poor health; it was transported to an emergency veterinarian and died a few days later.

"By all accounts it appears as though she was abandoned following a long period of neglect and malnourishment," Salem Animal Control Officer Corie Bliss said in a statement. "If you or a loved one are having difficulty caring for a dog or other animal, please contact your local shelter to look for other options ... This was not the way."

Police said they are looking for the owner of the dog. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bliss at 603-890-2390.
