Tree Crushes Car Brings Down Live Wires On Pelham Road In Salem
Fire crews worked for 20 minutes to extricate a man trapped inside the car. Liberty Utilities responded to disconnect live power lines.
SALEM, NH — A vehicle traveling on Stiles Road near the intersection of Pelham Road was crushed by a large tree brought down by the heavy wind Friday in Salem.
Winds of 15 to 20 mph were blowing when a tree fell into a car on Pelham Road. The tree crushed the car and trapped the driver. Salem firefighters faced challenges extricating the driver, who was heavily entrapped and surrounded by live power lines at about 9 a.m.
According to radio broadcasts, fire crews using extrication tools worked for about 20 minutes to extricate the conscious driver, who was breathing and alert. He was taken to the hospital after being removed.

Liberty Utility expedited crews to the scene who disconnected the live wires on the ground. Area businesses in the area lost power, as well as some of the traffic signals in the area lost power.
TNT Towing of Salem removed the heavily damaged vehicle from the scene. One other car was also damaged from the incident, but no one was hurt in that vehicle.

Liberty is on the scene making repairs and the tree has been moved to the side of the road to allow traffic to flow.
At noon, some businesses were still without power. However, power to traffic signals in the area has been restored.
