Canobie Cup Raises $20K For Building Dreams For Marines

Windham High School Varsity Hockey took the Cup in a 4-2 win against the Salem High Blue Devils.

The 2nd annual Canobie Cup saw a packed house of 800 and raised close to $20,000 for Building Dreams for Marines this past Saturday at the Icenter Salem, NH. Windham High School Varsity Hockey took the Cup in a 4-2 win against the Salem High Blue Devils.

According to the Building Dreams for Marines website (BDFM.org), the charity was established in 2012 “to assists NH veterans with mobility challenges from all Branches of Service. Life-enhancing modifications to homes or vehicles are provided for our brave men and women including no-cost planning, design, and construction.”

Veteran US Marine and Windham Police Sergeant Greg Iworsky was the 2023 puck drop honoree and Windham High Student and singer Tessa Sobolewski delivered the Anthem. The US Marines attended for the Presentation of Colors led by Sgt. Isaiah Chavez.

Families, community organizations and businesses from both Salem and Windham worked together to deliver this event and as rivalries go, Salem and Windham hockey have history. Windham Head Coach Shawn Dunn played for Salem Head Coach Mark McGinn’s original varsity hockey team in 1999. The two have built up a rivalry between the towns, the Canobie Cup is an NHIAA Division 1 season game and this year’s win propelled Windham into 2nd place in the State.
