Firefighter Injured Battling Windham Blaze
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A firefighter suffered heat-related injuries while battling a 2-alarm blaze in Windham early Monday morning.
Windham Fire Chief Thomas L. McPherson Jr. said his department received a 911 call from the occupants of 2 Meetinghouse Road around 2:16 a.m. Monday reporting a building fire. Upon arrival, he said firefighters found a 2-½ story wood framed building with heavy smoke conditions coming from the home. A working fire was called, bringing mutual aid assistance from Londonderry, Salem, Hudson and Derry to the scene. Pelham and Hampstead provided station coverage.
As firefighters made their way into the home, they encountered extreme heat and heavy fire conditions in a rear family room on the first floor, which quickly extended up into the second floor bedroom area. The first floor living area sustained heavy fire damage, with the remainder of the home damaged by extreme heat and water damage.
The occupants, Steve and Heidi Allan, were inside with their two adult children and a family pet when the fire broke out, and all were able to get out safely. The home did have working smoke detectors.
One firefighter suffered heat related injuries and was treated at the scene. Another firefighter slipped on ice but did not require medical attention. No other injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family with temporary housing, and the Salvation Army provided rehab services for the firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
