Five Things: Thousands Lose Power in Windham

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: Showers will continue through the day today with winds close to 20 mph. This afternoon will be a high of 66 with a low of 58 tonight.

2. SANDY SHUTS DOWN WINDHAM: Businesses up and down town were dark on Monday night as Hurricane Sandy slammed New Hampshire. A total of 4,870 PSNH customers and 427 National Grid customers were without power as of Monday night.

3. SCHOOL CANCELLED FOR TUESDAY: School has been cancelled again for today. Keep up with our Hurricane Sandy Windham Info Center for updates on other closings, power outages, restorations, accidents and meeting cancellations.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1991, the so-called "perfect storm" hits the North Atlantic producing remarkably large waves along the New England and Canadian coasts. Over the next several days, the storm spread its fury over the ocean off the coast of Canada. The fishing boat Andrea Gail and its six-member crew were lost in the storm. The disaster spawned the best-selling book The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and a blockbuster Hollywood movie of the same name.
