2. PLANNING BOARD MEETS TONIGHT: The Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. at the Community Development Department.
3. ATHLETIC PLAYOFFS NEAR: Several Windham High School sports teams are inching toward the NHIAA state playoffs, with many looking at high seeds. As of now, girls division II field hockey will kick off the state tournament today. Windham is the no. 3 seed and has a bye. The team will host either Souhegan or Goffstown on Saturday.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this date in 1989, the deadliest earthquake to hit the San Francisco area since 1906 struck at 5:04 p.m. and lasted for 15 seconds. The quake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, and its aftermath was witnessed on live television by millions of people watching the third game of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The earthquake killed 63 people, while more than 3,000 others were injured.
5. TRICK OR TREAT: Windham has set its trick-or-treat hours for Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
