LETTER: Hats Off to Windham Helping Hands

This is the second in a series of letters to Helping Hands that we will be publishing.

By Judy Newcomb:

Hats off to Windham Helping Hands! This outstanding organization is celebrating 10 years of service to members of our community. Throughout this past decade, they have provided meals for families who are dealing with difficult situations; backpacks filled with school supplies; gifts, food, and donations to make the holidays happier; and a variety of services for those in need.

I have participated in and supported many of their programs, but I never realized the impact of their efforts until I was on the receiving end of their generosity while I battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2010. Helping Hands coordinated meals and assistance for me and my family throughout six months of chemotherapy treatments. I felt surrounded by my own army, while we fought the battle and defeated this terrible disease. Helping Hands played a major role in my recovery.
