Windham Teachers' Contract Negotiations Hit Impasse
Windham School Board chairman announces mediation as the next step in negotiations.

Submitted by Windham School Board Chairman Michael Joanis:
The Windham School Board (WSB) wishes to inform the community that the Windham Education Association (WEA) declared an impasse during our teacher contract negotiations on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Both the WEA and the WSB presented multiple proposals to resolve the remaining items being negotiated. To date, we have been unable to come to resolution. A mutually agreed to third party mediator will be used from this point forward to continue the negotiation process. We expect the use of a mediator will benefit both parties. The WSB’s goal to successfully complete contract negotiations with the WEA remains unchanged. Determined pursuit of this goal is required to ensure the continued success of our students and to meet the needs of the community.
We are thankful that our teachers continue to provide high quality education to their students during the ongoing contract negotiations with their WEA leadership. We expect to achieve a contract proposal that supports teachers, meets the needs of students, and gains approval from our community.
