Mediation Set to Begin on Windham Teachers' Contract

District and education association hit impasse in October.

Following roughly three years of negotiation, compromise, disagreement and pitfalls, it appears likely that a court-appointed mediator may decide the terms of the next teachers' contract in Windham.

Mediation on the contract begins this week, according to a report in Tuesday's Lawrence Eagle-Tribune.

The Windham School Board and Windham Education Association opted for mediation in October after agreeing that negotiations had reached an impasse.

“We are optimistic and hopeful,” Windham School Board member Stephanie Wimmer told the newspaper.

Of course, most Windham residents remember that the two sides agreed on a deal this time last year. Voters, however, rejected the compromise at School District Meeting in March.
