Search for Missing UNH Student Extends to Portsmouth Fish Pier

Authorities on Thursday continued to search for a missing University of New Hampshire student who was last seen in Portsmouth.
Jonathan Zygmont, 19, of Windham, was last seen near Prescott Park Tuesday at about 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday morning, a University of New Hampshire police cruiser could be seen at the Portsmouth Fish Pier near Prescott Park.
The U.S. Coast Guard and state Marine Patrol were also involved in the search, authorities said.

Police do not suspect foul play but said they are concerned for his well-being. They said Zygmont may have been having relationship difficulties and was "despondent."
“Based on the information we have we’re eager to find Jonathan and make sure he’s OK,” said UNH Police Chief Paul Dean in a statement released Wednesday.

Dean could not be reached for comment Thursday.
UNH spokeswoman Erika Mantz said Wednesday night there was no new information on the search.
"Missing" signs featuring a photo of Zygmont were taped to trees in Prescott Park.
Zygmont was described as a white male stranding 5 feet, 11 inches and weighing 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing black shoes, khaki pants, and a brown sweatshirt with the word “Burton” on it in red lettering. He was carrying a black North Face backpack.
Police urge anyone with information on Zygmont’s whereabouts to call police at 603-862-1427.
