Slick Road Caused Bus to Collide With SUV

Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson issued further details this afternoon.

The Windham Fire Department has released additional details related to this morning's school bus accident, saying that a slick road caused the bus to collide with an SUV.

According to Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson, fire and police officials responded to the scene on Beacon Hill Road in the vicinity of Tarbell Road at 7:43 a.m.

McPherson said that on arrival, it appeared that the bus was unable to make the hill just prior to Tarbell Road due to the slippery conditions.

"As the bus attempted to back down the hill, the bus slid slightly off the road," McPherson said in a release. "That's when the SUV traveling in the opposite direction spun out and collided with the front of the school bus.

Emergency workers boarded the bus and determined that eight students were inside, all en route to Windham High School.

All students were medically evaluated and nobody was transported to the hospitals.

The students were transported by bus to Windham High School. Parents of the students were all notified.

Representatives of the bus company and the Windham School District were also all notified.

Neither the bus driver nor the lone occupant of the SUV were injuried in the accident.

The incident is being investigated by the Windham Police Department.
