Town to Take Up Road Concerns After Nasty Storm

An item will be placed on the agenda in two weeks.

Responding to several phone calls from residents regarding the condition of yesterday's roads, Selectman Chairman Bruce Breton announced today that the board will take up the issue at its next meeting.

Breton said that he received over two dozen calls from residents with varying comments or complaints about the snowy streets.

The discussion with the town's road agent will take place on Jan. 28, with no meeting next week due to the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

"Our main goal in the town of Windham, my main goal is to make sure our roads are safe for the children and for the residents," Breton said.

Breton also assured residents that the town has a fully-funded winter maintenance budget.

"Just in the month of December we purchased over 600 tons of sand and salt."

He said that he will try to get back to all of the residents who called him.

Breton also clarified that some roads are controlled by the state, which means they are plowed by the state.

Some of the complaints centered around the town offices, such as Town Hall, which some said weren't plowed.

An accident involving a school bus early Wednesday morning sparked some of the concern for residents over road conditions. The incident took place on Beacon Hill Road in the vicinity of Tarbell Road at 7:43 a.m.

Statewide, the commute wasn't much better. State police reported dozens of accidents late Wednesday afternoon, many taking place on New Hampshire's highways.
