4 Dead, 150 Homeless, Arsonist Charged As Fires Scorch The State: NJ Weekend

Here are the headlines you may have missed from the Thanksgiving weekend in New Jersey.

Four people are dead and 150 are homeless following multiple fires across the state.

Here are the headlines from the weekend in New Jersey you may have missed:

2 Dead, 72 Homeless In Overnight Fire

Just after 1 a.m. Monday, a fire was reported at a 24-unit apartment building at 308 W Front St. in Plainfield. As a result, two people were killed and 72 residents were displaced. The identities of those killed were not immediately released, according to News 12.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to all who were affected by last night’s residential fire in downtown Plainfield. We are heartbroken by the loss of life and the impact on families, including members of our school community," stated Plainfield Public Schools.

3-Alarm Newark Fire Leaves 50 Homeless

More than 110 firefighters responded to a fire on Saturday at 6:18 a.m. at 286 14th Ave., which then spread to two other buildings located at 288 14th Ave. and 290 14th Ave., according to News 12.

"Our Disaster Action Team responded to a multi-home fire on 14th Ave in Newark, helping 51 people in 14 families with emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, & clothing needs," according to Red Cross of New Jersey.

No injuries were reported.

Man Sets 3 Fires, Charged With Arson: Cops

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a blaze in the basement window well of a structure on East Eighth Street in Lakewood was reported. Shortly afterward, they found two brush fires along railroad tracks nearby, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Firefighters were able to extinguish all three fires, authorities said.

Israel Salgado-Miron, 39, was identified as the person responsible for the fires and charged with aggravated arson and two counts of arson, authorities said Sunday.

Sisters Die Trying To Save Disabled Dad From Thanksgiving Fire

Two sisters died on Thanksgiving trying to save their disabled father from a fire in Essex County, officials said.

Frantzia Fleury, 49, and Pojanee Fleury, 42, were killed in the blaze, which started in a home in Orange around 5 p.m., said a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office on Friday.

Man Charged In Thanksgiving Stabbing

Police were called to an Ocean County apartment complex at 11:36 p.m. on Thursday and found a 20-year-old woman, who had been stabbed in the abdomen and was severely injured, being tended to by a family member, said police.

Jaden Thompson, who has a Freehold address, was arrested Saturday in Edison after a brief vehicle pursuit that ended when he crashed his car, Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz said Saturday night.
