NEW JERSEY - More than three dozen earthquake aftershocks have been reported around the Garden State since Friday morning’s 4.8 magnitude earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The strongest aftershock occurred near Gladstone at 3.8 magnitude about 6 p.m. on Friday, the USGS said. The most recent aftershock was recorded Sunday evening at 1.3 magnitude near Califon.

More aftershocks are likely to follow, USGS officials warn.

"According to our forecast, there is a 1% chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 5, which can be damaging, within the next week," the USGS said, adding the area could record up to 10 aftershocks in the next week that measure at a magnitude 3 or higher.

Days after the 4.8 magnitude quake, some Garden State residents are still under a boil advisory after a water main break in Randolph on Friday, and the Chester Borough Hall currently has no power. Read more: Boil Advisory, Power Outage Still Affecting Chester And Randolph

In Newark, several homes were apparently left unstable and “leaning” in the wake of the quake. Read more: Several Homes Seen 'Leaning' In Newark After Earthquake

A 264-year-old mill in Readington that fed George Washington's troops was also damaged as a result of the Friday earthquake, according to reports. The mill was already under Preservation New Jersey's 2023 Most Endangered List before the shaking caused part of the mill's facade to crumble.
