These Are The Best High Schools In NJ: U.S. News

NEW JERSEY — Several public high schools in New Jersey are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.

Among the 406 ranked New Jersey schools, two were in the U.S. Top 50 (Union County Magnet High School, No. 26; Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies, No. 39) and five were in the U.S. Top 100 (High Technology High School, No. 64; Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health, No. 65; Dr. Ronald E McNair High School, No. 83; Bergen County Academies, No. 84; Bergen County Technical High School Teterboro, No. 88).

The top 25 high schools in New Jersey are:

2. Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies, Edison
3. High Technology High School, Lincroft
4. Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health, Woodbridge
5. Biotechnology High School, Freehold

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.

U.S. News also ranked magnet, charter and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools. Among standout schools in New Jersey are:
