County authorities are investigating a Saturday shooting in Newark that claimed the life of a local resident.

Jaheem Futrell was found on the 300 block of South 8th Street with a gunshot wound just after 10:45 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene a half hour after he was found by Newark officers. Read more.

Husband, Wife Dead In Passaic Apartment Fire

A New Jersey husband and wife were found dead after firefighters extinguished an apartment building in Passaic City Sunday morning, per ABC7.

The fire at a two-story garden apartment complex on Spruce Street remains under investigation, the outlet said.

10 people from eight families were provided lodging, food and other necessities as a result of the fire, Red Cross New Jersey said in a statement. As of Sunday afternoon, other families evacuated from the building have been able to return to their homes.

Driver Dead After Wrong-Way Crash Into Landscaping Stone, Mailboxes

A driver was pronounced dead after a single-vehicle crash in South Jersey Saturday night, authorities said.

A Kia Optima driving on the 3900 block of West Malaga Road in Franklin Township crossed into the oncoming lane of travel, struck a “large landscape stone” and several mailboxes before coming to a rest about 10:37 p.m., police said.

The driver, Robert Lafferty III , 38, of Williamstown, was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said. His passenger and the only other occupant in the vehicle, Edward W. Curran, 41, also of Williamstown, was treated for a possible wrist fracture at Cooper Hospital. Toddler Death In North Jersey Sparks Investigation

The death of a two-year-old found inside a New Jersey home on Saturday has launched an investigation from county authorities.

The toddler was pronounced deceased minutes after Newark police responded to the home on the 100 block of South Orange Avenue about 2:15 p.m. for a “baby in distress." Read more.
