9 People Killed In NJ Crashes Over Fourth Of July Weekend
Most of the crashes happened on Sunday, according to New Jersey State Police.
Nine people were killed in motor vehicle crashes over the Fourth of July weekend, New Jersey State Police records show.
Sunday was the deadliest day, with five fatal crashes, including two in Middlesex County and two in Monmouth County.
The crashes bring the total number of fatalities on the roads to 276 people killed in 259 crashes so far in 2025. Ocean County has the most fatalities with 30 killed in 25 crashes, with Middlesex County reporting 28 fatalities in 28 crashes.

On Friday, a 74-year-old man from Woodbine was killed in Cumberland County in a head-on crash when his car crossed into the oncoming lane shortly after midnight, State Police said. Read more: Man, 74, Dies In Head-On Crash In South Jersey: Police
Later that day, a driver was killed in a crash on Route 35 in Keyport, according to state police. The crash happened just after 8 p.m., and the road was closed for nearly three hours, according to Keyport police. Patch has requested additional information on the crash.

On Saturday there were two crashes as well, both involving passengers who were killed.
In Pleasantville, a 24-year-old Bridgeton man was killed when the Infiniti he was a passenger in hit a concrete barrier and toll reader support structure on the Atlantic City Expressway just before 4:30 a.m., state police said. About 12:30 p.m. a crash in front of a church near the border of Trenton and Hamilton killed a 51-year-old Hamilton woman, who was ejected from a pickup truck. Two others were injured in that crash. Read more: Woman Killed, 2 Injured In Crash Outside Mercer Co. Church: Reports
On Sunday, a moped rider was killed in a crash in Woodbridge shortly after midnight when the rider and two other mopeds fled from police in Perth Amboy, according to the New Jersey Attorney General's office, which is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Less than an hour later, a 58-year-old woman from Brooklyn was killed when the Nissan she was driving was rear-ended by a Tesla driven by a 21-year-old man on the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville, state police said.
In the evening, an 82-year-old man was killed in Buena Vista Township in Atlantic County just before 7 p.m. when a Tesla ran a stop sign and hit the man's Honda Civic, state police said.
The last two fatal crashes happened less than an hour apart in northern Monmouth County.
At 11 p.m., the driver of a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was killed when the car ran off Shafto Road and hit several trees, Tinton Falls police said. Read more: Driver Dies After Car Leaves Road, Hits Trees In Monmouth County: Police
At 11:52 p.m., a driver was killed in a crash on Carr Avenue in Keansburg, according to state police records. Additional details have been requested from Keansburg police.
