EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The hotly anticipated NY Jets debut of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers was cut dramatically short by injury Monday night, and now it appears his season is over.

Rodgers will not return this season, as his Achilles is torn, ESPN first reported. The career of the veteran is also at risk, and it’s possible he will never return to the gridiron.

"Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you've made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward," the Jets organization shared in a social media post Tuesday. "Get well soon, Aaron Rodgers."

The Jets were a popular sleeper pick for a deep postseason run entering the year, with the longtime Green Bay quarterback at the helm of a young offensive core. Now the Jets future is again at risk as they look to end their 13 year playoff drought. Despite the loss of Rodgers, the Jets did, however, hang on for an impressive 22-16 win over a strong Buffalo squad Monday night.
