NJ Transit Train Service Resumes, Long Delays Expected
Train service has resumed out of Penn Station, but long delays are expected.

NEW YORK CITY — NJ Transit train service was suspended into and out of Penn Station New York Thursday afternoon due to Amtrak overhead wire issues. Service has since resumed, but travelers should expected delays, according to transit sources.

"Rail service into and out of Penn Station New York has resumed and is subject to up to 1 hour and 30-minute delays," NJ Transit said just before 6 p.m.

The service disruptions were compounded by a "significant" brush fire in the vicinity of County Road in Hudson County that was impacting wire repairs, the agency said. Photos of the brush fire can be seen here.
Videos taken from inside the station during the commuting mayhem were shared via social media, with one witness saying "nobody is getting home on the NJ transit tonight."

In the meantime, rail tickets and passes are being crossed-honored by NJ Transit and private carrier buses and PATH at Newark Penn, Hoboken and 33rd Street, NY. Visit http://njtransit.com/ABC for alternate service information.
Additionally, Amtrak reported Thursday afternoon that service is "temporarily disrupted" between Philadelphia 30th Street Station and New Haven Union Station in Connecticut.
The developments come as scorching heat has gripped the region, bringing temperatures to the mid-90s.
