Below-Zero Wind Chill Grips NJ As ‘Extreme’ Cold Arrives
Sub-zero wind temperatures will make it dangerous for those traveling or working outside, forecasters said.
NEW JERSEY — Bitter cold will linger until at least midweek in New Jersey and much of the country, with forecasters warning that wind chills could cause hypothermia in those unprepared for the elements.
This wide-ranging cold snap will impact some 235 million residents in the Great Plains, Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic, and even the Gulf Coast, AccuWeather said. Increased heating demands can also stress power grids, and the cold will impact farming and other industries, the weather company added.
As for New Jersey, Monday and Tuesday night look to be the coldest, with sub-zero wind chills in some parts of the state.

"Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures," the National Weather Service cautioned.
Forecasters are advising people to dress in layers and cover all exposed skin when outside, check on their family, friends, and neighbors, and to limit or avoid their time outdoors. Those especially vulnerable to the cold include newborns, the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and people without shelter.
