Drivers To See Delays This Week Due To Lane Closures In Union County
Traffic will be impacted for at least two days.

UNION COUNTY, NJ - Drivers who take Route 22 will have closures in both directions this week as construction continues to replace the bridge deck in Mountainside.
Traffic on the bridge over Echo Lake will be impacted eastbound on Wednesday, Aug. 20, and westbound on Thursday, Aug. 21. The New Jersey Department of Transportation says the closures are needed to remove a barrier and restripe the roadway.
Eastbound
"Beginning at 9 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20 until 6 a.m. Thursday, August 21, a single lane on Route 22 eastbound is scheduled to be closed from milepost 50.6 near the U-turn to milepost 50.8 near the Spanish Tavern restaurant. Construction is expected to begin in the right lane and move to the left lane as work progresses."

Westbound
"Beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, August 21 until 6 a.m. Friday, August 22, a single lane on Route 22 westbound is scheduled to be closed from milepost 50.8 near the Hibachi restaurant to milepost 50.6 near the left entrance lane from the eastbound U-turn. Construction is expected to begin in the right lane and move to the left lane as work progresses."
At least one lane will always be open during construction. The operations are part of a $9 million federally funded project that replaced a culvert under the bridge, and was done in stages to keep traffic flowing.

While the exact timing of the work may change due to weather or other factors, the project is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
