New Details On Incoming Weekend Storm Headed To NJ

Heavy rain, fierce wind gusts, flooding and thunderstorms are all possible as two storms converge on NJ this weekend. See the latest:

NEW JERSEY - Half of New Jersey at risk of flooding through Saturday after several rounds of rain pummeled the state and more is on the way.

More than six inches of rain has dropped in parts of the state since Tuesday and up to two more inches is expected Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning as two storms converge on the state this weekend, per AccuWeather. Most of the region is forecast to see between half an inch to an inch of new accumulation.

10 counties are under a coastal flood advisory until 10 a.m. Friday due to saturated ground and inundated rivers, according to the National Weather Service The affected counties are:

“Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” the agency said. “At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities … some partial or full road closures are possible.”

More rounds of flooding are likely with the high tide cycles on Saturday, the agency added.

Friday will be mostly sunny with daytime highs around 55 degrees before the mercury drops to 35 degrees overnight, forecasters said.

“Try to enjoy today if you have the chance, as it'll be the most tranquil of the next 4,” the National Weather Service Mount Holly said in a statement. “Tidal flooding is an increasing risk thru Saturday night. Rain moves in Saturday, heavy at times with t-storms possible Saturday night, then very windy Sunday and Monday.”

The storm is expected to taper off by Sunday afternoon, with possible rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph capable of causing power outages at the tail end, AccuWeather reported.

After early morning cold winds, Monday will see a return to sunny skies with a high near 45 degrees.

North Jersey

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Friday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 35. South wind around 6 mph.

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 1 p.m. High near 48. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain. Low around 40. Southeast wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Sunday: A chance of rain before 1 p.m., then scattered rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Breezy.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Windy.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33. Windy.

Central Jersey

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 38. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 10 a.m. High near 48. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 a.m., then a slight chance of rain. Low around 45. Breezy, with a southeast wind 15 to 25 mph becoming southwest after midnight.
