Major Shift Coming For NJ Weather As October Starts: Latest Forecast

The start of October will bring a big change in temperatures, according to the latest forecast.

As September ends and October begins, New Jerseyans can expect a major shift in the weather with temperatures set to drop, according to the latest forecast.

The last two days of the month - Monday and Tuesday - will be in the upper-70s to low-80s, the National Weather Service said. Conditions will be mostly cloudy.

Then, a cold front will move in Tuesday night, "ushering in a fall-like airmass," National Weather Service forecasters said. There won't be any rain with this front, just low temperatures.

"We begin to feel the effects of the Canadian airmass on Tuesday Night as lows dip into the mid to upper 40s north and west of the I-95 corridor," the National Weather Service said.

The first day of October will be mostly sunny but temperatures will stay in the upper-60s to low-70s. On Wednesday night, some areas of higher elevation in North Jersey may even drop into the 30s, but forecasters say there is no risk of frost yet.

"A steady northeast wind will keep the bottom from falling out completely with temperatures overnight, though there will be a fall chill in the air," forecasters said.

The rest of the week will be more of the same, with fall-like conditions. By the end of the week, things will start to warm back up.

"Overall, it should be a nice stretch of early October weather," the National Weather Service said. "Temperatures will be a few degrees below normal to start the long- term on Thursday-only in the 60s, but should moderate each day, eventually getting into above normal territory by the end of the weekend (upper 70s)."
