NEW JERSEY — NJ Transit service to and from New York City is delayed up to 90 minutes following Amtrak overhead wire issues Tuesday morning, transit officials told Patch.

NJ Transit trains were halted about 8 a.m. Tuesday after the wire issues and a disabled train delayed service between the Garden State and New York’s Penn Station, a spokesperson for NJ Transit told Patch.

As of 9:19 a.m., service has resumed and Midtown Direct trains are being diverted to Hoboken, the spokesperson added. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are still being crossed-honored by NJ TRANSIT and private carrier buses and PATH at Newark Penn, Hoboken and 33rd Street, New York.

“NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak are working together to resolve the issue and determine the root cause,” the spokesperson said.

Similar Amtrak wire issues prompted NJ Transit to delay or cancel more than 160 trains in a single day last month, News12 New Jersey reported.

The mass delays come days before commuters are slapped with NJ Transit's 15 percent fare hike, which goes into effect July 1.
