As the new school year has started across New Jersey, some districts are beginning with fewer teachers and fewer resources, while others are breathing a little easier thanks to funding from the state budget.

New Jersey allocated more than $12 billion in state aid to districts for the 2025-26 school year, with some changes including caps for most districts on either aid increases or aid reductions.

Over the last several years, there have been changes in aid allocations between what was included in the governor's initial budget introduction in March to what districts received in the finalized budget, for the 2025-26 school year there were no changes in aid figures.

You can see how much aid your district received from the state in the searchable list below.

For districts that had reductions in aid, those losses were capped at 3 percent for all but four districts: Cape May City, which saw its aid reduced by 27.29 percent; Califon in Hunterdon County, which had a 7.79 percent reduction; Colts Neck in Monmouth County, which had a 4.49 percent reduction, and Laurel Springs in Camden County, which had its aid reduced 3.55 percent.

Aid increases were capped for most districts at 6 percent, though there were 65 that received more than 6 percent and 10 districts received double-digit aid increases: Green Township in Sussex County, 10.32 percent; Milford in Hunterdon County, 11.65 percent; South Hunterdon, 11.75 percent; Lower Cape May Regional, 11.86 percent; West Cape May, 14.39 percent; Frenchtown in Hunterdon County, 15.15 percent; Deal in Monmouth County, 15.88 percent; Franklin Township in Hunterdon County, 16.08 percent; Central Regional in Ocean County, 18.05 percent, and Beach Haven in Ocean County, 19.32 percent.

The final aid figures in the chart do not reflect the Tax Levy Incentive Aid program, which provided districts that participated with additional aid if they increased their property tax levy by more than the state's 2 percent cap.

More than 80 districts chose to participate in that program out of more than 280 that were eligible, NJ Spotlight reported.
