NEW JERSEY - The same weekend that holds forecast high temperatures in the 50s for the Garden State is slated to get up to three inches of snow in parts of the state, forecasters said.

The “unseasonably mild” temperatures on Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, will drop to the 30s on Sunday evening, with a wintry mix to drop over a half an inch of rain on New Jersey into Monday morning.

"Latest guidance points towards some potential for wintry weather in the high elevations of northern NJ and the Poconos," the agency said in a Friday forecast discussion, though current climate conditions point to little snow accumulation in the affected areas.

AccuWeather expects chilly rain from New York City to Philadelphia (save for snow in northwestern New Jersey), with the biggest threat to the entire being flooding. Paired with hot weekend temperatures prompting snowmelt, the new rainfall could bring a flood threat to the region.

"The final round of rain expected beginning on Sunday may not produce eye-popping rain totals," AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said. "Despite that, it can still be enough to increase the risk of flooding."

The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for Monmouth, Burlington, Salem, Ocean, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties, with minor coastal flooding possible on Sunday and Monday.

The precipitation is slated to taper off Monday afternoon, leaving behind cloudy skies and temperatures in the 40s. The forecast through Thursday will oscillate between partly sunny and mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures around the low 40s.
